For a family of 4 to 8 people, the Aroma ARC-940SB model would make a fine addition to any kitchen. This 10 cup rice cooker is also great for making vegetables, as well as preparing stews and soups!
But when you're done with supper, is it a hassle to clean?
Well as far as the inner bowl is concerned, clean up will be easy thanks to its non stick surface (just when stirring remember to use plastic spatulas only!). The unit also comes equipped with a condensation collector which will catch excess steam inside the unit and store it in a reservoir instead of it dripping down the side and all over the counter.
However, there are some small parts such as the steaming tray and top lid that require a little more extra maintenance since food and excess rice starch does have a tendency to stick to them, but not such a bad price to pay for feeding such a large family all in one appliance.
And speaking of cost...despite the cup capacity of the Aroma ARC-940SB, it has a reasonable price tag when compared to some of its competitors.
Food Steaming & Rice Cooking
Another plus benefit in addition to the condensation collector is folks have the option to steam food while their rice is cooking using the included steaming tray. This is great and allows for an entire healthy meal to be prepared all in one unit!
However, some manual timing is needed when steaming different food.
For cooking white rice, for the most part folks will get an average, good quality batch ranging anywhere from 6 to 30 cups cooked rice.
But for cooking other types like brown, jasmine, sushi, mixed, etc., expect some trial and error until you get it close to your liking.
The Aroma ARC-940SB rice cooker comes with a measuring cup, non-scratch rice spatula, steaming tray, removable condensation collect, and manual.
Pros
cooks good quality white rice & decent brown, jasmine, etc.
easy to operate
food does not stick to bowl
decent cook times
allows for vegetable steaming while cooking rice
can also be used to prepare soup, stews, and oatmeal
Cons
no programmable timer
some parts do require constant cleaning
some folks complain unit comes with too many sticky labels attached
At the time of this writing, we only reviewed a few other models of this cup size that do come close, but are either triple the price, or do not offer the convenient simultaneous steaming benefit.
Others were cheaper units that either received too many negative consumer feedback comments, didn't come with the same amount of features, and were mostly out of stock or discontinued. Those models never found there way on rice-cooker-guide.com
However, another Aroma 10 cup rice cooker to compare it to is the "ARC-1000" model.
To wrap this up, for a large household, and once again for the price, we recommend folks consider this Aroma 10 cup rice cooker. It is a neat little multi-tasker and allows busy cooks to worry about other things over tending to 4 pots all going at once!
