For around $50 (at time of writing), the Aroma ARC-960SB is a pretty good rice cooker, that once again at time of this writing holds on to a 4 Star rating according to Amazon's Customer Reviews.
One of the first things you'll notice about this cooker is the stylish stainless steel design which will easily fit the decor of many modern kitchens. But another thing you may notice is that it seems to be a carbon copy of the Aroma ARC-1000...a cooker that shares pretty much the same benefits as well as feedback.
Having stated that, the rice cooker's handsome and easy to use digital interface features both a white and brown rice setting, a steam cook setting, and delay timer setting for selecting hourly increments for a start time (perfect for when soaking rice is required). Just add your rice and water, select the type (white or brown), and walk away...the cooker does the rest.
Sensor Logic Technology
Sensor logic is on board the Aroma ARC-960SB which performs very similar to Fuzzy Logic technology. Instead of just boiling the rice until the water is all absorbed, this unit will actually monitor how the rice is cooking...for both white and brown rice.
These specific settings will automatically adjust cooking time and temperature resulting in a moist, fluffy, restaurant-like quality batch of rice. This technology will also make up for slight errors in measurements. (no more than 1/4 cup over or under).
Having Aroma's Sensor Logic in your kitchen is a good thing and will take most of the guesswork out of preparing consistent rice. However, we have found that the Zojirushi, Sanyo, and Panasonic "Logic" technology does a better job concerning overall rice quality.
Steams Food
This Aroma 10 cup rice cooker model also comes with a steaming tray so folks can steam vegetables, fish, or poultry while the rice is cooking.
A nice little extra benefit for making an entire meal using one cooker.
Also included with this Aroma ARC-960SB unit is a measuring cup, non-stick bowl, and rice spatula. The 10 cup size is perfect for large households, but perhaps too large for couples or single chefs.
Pros
both easy to use and clean
offers simultaneous food steaming
different settings for white and brown rice
makes good standard quality rice and is decently priced for a 10 cup cooker
attractive stainless steel design
Cons
some state it crusts bottom layer of rice once finished
inner lid (top lid) is awkward to clean
no clock display
lacks a retractable cord and spatula holder as with other models of this build
A good buy for the price, and let us also mention that the Aroma ARC-960SB has a keep warm feature that will hold the rice at a ready to eat temperature until folks are ready to serve. But once more does tend to dry the bottom layer.
For the money, we do recommended comparing with other models before making a final selection...but do fancy the simultaneous food steaming the cooker offers! Not too many Fuzzy Logic models come with this convenient feature.
Measurements: 10.8 x 11.2 x 10.8 Inches | 10 Cup Capacity (approx. 30 Cups Cooked Rice)
