Aroma ARC-998 Rice & Steamer Cooker

aroma-arc-998 rice cooker

Price Range: Moderate

Rice Quality: Good

Benefits & Features: Several

Performance: Good

Pros vs. Cons: Pros Outweigh Cons

Overall Rating: Good

For the price, this Aroma ARC-998 model is ok. While not the best Aroma rice cooker, or the most affordable, it makes good white and brown rice and also offers a steaming benefit.

The ARC-998 model has an 8 cup raw rice capacity which means it can prepare up to 24 cups regular cooked white rice...expect a little less for brown rice.

The unit has a stylish stainless steel outer shell design that will look great in almost any kitchen, is easy to operate, and as mentioned above can simultaneously steam vegetables, seafood, or poultry using the included steaming basket while your rice is cooking.

NOTE: you will need to time steaming according to both your rice type and capacity as needed (mainly when cooking brown rice).

Somewhat Longer Cook Times

Using the Aroma ARC-998 to cook white rice means that on average it will be done within half an hour, but when cooking and/or selecting brown rice, it takes over 3 times as long due to the extra soaking process and cook times the machine automatically sets.

Having stated that, the unit features both a white and brown rice setting for cooking and maintaining fluffy and moist consistency. All the user has to do is add the correct measurements, select their rice type, and then press “Start”.

For steaming, the shallow tray sits on top of the rim of the inner bowl allowing the top lid to close securely. Also note that this tray size is good for feeding about 3 to 4 people max.

Included with the Aroma ARC-998 is a measuring cup, rice ladle, steaming tray, non-stick bowl, and instruction manual. Its measurements (see bottom) does not take up a lot of space, and for the most part can stay put on the counter without being overly cumbersome.

All while providing enough rice to feed a full-sized family!

One additional Pro this Aroma steamer cooker takes care of are boil over issues which are commonly associated with removable glass top lid cookers.

However, what it sometimes shares with these types of cookers is slight crusting of the bottom layer of rice...the same as if one were to cook rice in a stove pot.

But overall, for folks who are in the market for an easy to use, straight-forward rice cooker with a steaming benefit that has a nice cup capacity for a fair price, the Aroma ARC-998 unit is one to consider.
