*Special Note: this Black and Decker RC3406 model is sometimes mislabeled as a "6 Cup Cooker". After researching we found that this cooker has a 3 cup raw capacity that yields up to 9 cups cooked white rice in rice cooker measurements, (not 6 cups cooked!).
The water level gauge inside the inner bowl of this RC3406 model should read up to 6 cups in order to be correctly labeled as a 6 cup cooker which it does not.
Also note that this model is sometimes confused with the updated RC3303 model which also may have a 3 cup capacity. We confirmed all of this on 11-10-09 after much digging!

Our Review:
Using the Black and Decker RC3406 rice cooker to make a decent bowl of regular white rice on occasion is your best bet if you're considering this rice cooker. Otherwise we may have better choices for you regarding other grain types.
Not to say that this is a horrible unit...it is not, but for such a low price folks will get the same quality and performance for what they paid for; and not many benefits and features either.
This Black & Decker rice cooker will bring water to a boil in around the same time it will take a stove pot, and continue rapidly boiling the rice until the temperature sensor detects when it is finished. When the rice is complete, the Black and Decker RC3406 will switch into a warm mode keeping the rice at a ready to eat temperature until you're ready to serve.
Cleaning is simple thanks to the non stick bowl, and operation is literally just the push of a button. Included with this model is a measuring cup, steam tray, and plastic rice scoop for easy preparation and serving.
Since this Black and Decker 3 cup rice cooker is small and light weight it is easy to transport to the table for easy serving as well as storing. Perfect size for couples or single cooks!
Pros
easy to use & clean
makes decent quality white rice fast
cooks fast even at full cup capacity
can steam a small amount of food while rice is cooking
stay cool carrying handles
bowl, lid, and scoop are dishwasher safe (top rack)
affordable
Cons
misleading product labeling
no timer or advanced settings
only ideal for white rice
water to rice learning curve with other rice types
some have experienced boil over issues
simple design may not fit all kitchen decors or appeal to everyone’s taste
We also do not want to mislead in the cons that the Black and Decker RC3406 cannot cook other rice types. It can, but there will be some trial and error. Remember, more expensive units monitor temperature and cooking time and therefore cook wild, brown, sushi, and mixed rice better than plain old rapid boil cookers.
And even with those units there is a slight learning curve to get it exactly to your liking!
But for the most part this 3 cup rice cooker is perfect for that quick bowl of white rice in the event all four burners are occupied. We would say go for it if that is all folks will need it for.
However, also check our "Best 3 Cup Cookers" page for other close comparisons! And once more, please note that 3 cups refers to the non-cooked raw capacity.
