Panasonic SR-3NA-S Travel Rice Cooker

panasonic sr-3na-s rice cooker

Price Range: Low

Rice Quality: Decent

Benefits & Features: None

Performance: Good

Pros vs. Cons: Balanced

Overall Rating: Fair

For folks who live alone or travel, buying this Panasonic SR-3NA-S small electric rice cooker may be worth it. (it almost received a "Good" rating, read more...)

We say "may" simply because there are other models to consider, but what this one offers is no different. It is easy to use, easy to clean, cooks a small amount of decently-textured white rice, and is small enough to fit great on counter tops without hogging space.

If you want rice in a hurry, then this model will also provide that with an approximate 15 to 20 minute cooking time. During our research we found that flight attendants who are constantly on the go favor this small travel rice cooker. Also, it does more than cook rice.

If you need to heat up soup or make oatmeal this unit will do that as well, but just keep your eye on it so as not to crust the bottom since the sensor may kick in a wee bit too late.

We should also mention that this Panasonic SR-3NA-S cooker works best for cooking white rice only.

Pros

  • easy straightforward operation
  • perfect size and weight for travel (about 2 pounds)
  • smart buy for singles or couples
  • see through glass window for monitoring rice, soup, or oatmeal
  • handles will stay cool while cooking
  • a real space saver

  • Cons

  • a little on the pricey side vs. small cup capacity
  • no keep warm feature
  • no steaming feature
  • not ideal for larger households

Basically that is all we could review about this mini rice cooker. It does what it does, cooks a small amount of white rice in a good time. All one has to do is add their rice and water, push a button, and let the appliance do the rest.

Once it is finished the unit will automatically shut off, but as mentioned above will not keep rice warm, so be sure to serve it within 5 minutes. That may also be another small con since rice develops a better, fluffier texture when simmered in warm mode for 10 to 15 minutes.

Having stated that, for folks who are considering this Panasonic SR-3NA-S model, for its size, you're not making a mistake. So far, we haven't come across anything too negative, just the fact that it is a bit pricey for its size and is only ideal for making regular white rice.

A good choice as compact cookers go, and if it were about $20 bucks cheaper...it would have received a "Good" rating on this site.
