Panasonic SR-MS102 5 Cup Rice Cooker

panasonic sr-ms102

Price Range: Moderate

Rice Quality: Very Good

Benefits & Features: Multiple

Performance: Excellent

Pros vs. Cons: Pros Outweigh Cons

Overall Rating: Excellent

So, is the Panasonic SR-MS102 the best Panasonic rice cooker? Well, maybe one of the best...

Like some Sanyo units that are priced for around the same, the SR-MS102 5 cup rice cooker model does not stop at making multiple types of rice. It also comes equipped with steaming, slow-cooking, and baking benefits as well.

Something which we favored over the very good yet older SR-NA10/18 models. Just keep in mind when slow-cooking that the bowl size of this model is only ideal for about 2 people.

The performance of these convenient additional settings is far from mediocre and will make folks feel they got their money's worth. Its large orange LCD digital display is easy to understand and read, even when the room is dim.

A Panasonic Fuzzy Logic Rice Cooker

The Panasonic SR-MS102 goes beyond the simple rapid-boil rice cooking method and uses a technology called "Fuzzy Logic". Generally, most expensive rice cookers use this micro-computerized feature that does not just cook the rice, but actually monitors how the rice is cooking making adjustments in cooking time and temperature when and where needed...if needed.

So, for example, if folks add just a little too much or too little water, the unit will adjust for these slight errors and the rice will still come out fine, (within a certain reasonable limit).

When the rice is finished the cooker will switch into a warm mode keeping the rice at a ready to serve temperature. As far as the specific settings, there are: white, brown, sticky (sushi), quick cook, steam, slow cook, and cake. Simply measure, select your variety, and press start.

This 5 cup Panasonic rice cooker will do the rest and take most of the guess work out of cooking consistent moist and fluffy rice. The unit can prepare up 15 cups of cooked white rice but does take a little bit longer than average to do so for the sake of overall quality.

Also note that the Panasonic SR-MS102 comes with a programmable timer to help counter that.

For the slow cooking feature we are unable at this time of review to give specific max times or if there are high and low settings…we’ll keep our visitors updated!

To conclude, this appliance is a great kitchen multi-tasker and acts more than just a rice cooker. For the price, the Panasonic SR-MS102 is a good deal and worth purchasing.

As one reviewer put it; "this is not a one trick pony!"

It holds up to the more elite Sanyo and Zojirushi competition, and like some of those models currently deserves an "Excellent" rating here on rice-cooker-guide.com.

    Another well-built model from Panasonic.

Please also see the larger SR-MS182 10 cup version as well.

Tip: to prolong the internal battery life keep the unit plugged in. Keep in mind that the cooker will still perform properly without the battery as it just runs the clock when the unit is unplugged. Life of battery is approx. 4 yrs.

    Measures: 13 x 9.8 x 8.2 Inches | 5 Cup Capacity (15 Cups Cooked Rice)
