Travel Rice Cooker Models
Please have a look at these travel rice cooker choices that make good average quality rice, are compact and light weight, are easy to use and are ideal for carrying from place to place. Cookers from Zojirushi, Panasonic, and Black & Decker. (models listed subject to change as updates & new units become available) Zojirushi NS-VGC05
As mentioned on our "mini rice cooker" page, this unit is probably one of the best small fuzzy logic 3 cup capacity units worth checking out for the sake of travel. It will make very high quality white, sushi, and mixed rice as this machine not only cooks rice but pays attention on how the rice is cooking making fine temperature and timing adjustments along the way. It is a little on the pricey side for such a small cooker but is ideal for folks who want the convenience of a micom rice cooker with preset timer features that takes the guess work out of making consistent above-standard batches of rice. Just note that this cooker does not come with a brown rice setting. For that, please consider researching the slightly more expensive Zojrisuhi NS-LAC05 model (3 cup cooker also). Panasonic SR-G06FG
This small rice cooker has a 3.3 cup capacity that is good for yielding around 9 to 10 cups of cooked white rice, but can be used to make smaller portions. It is very easy to use as all one has to do is measure correctly using the included cup and water gauge inside the bowl, plug in, and press a lever. This Panasonic travel rice cooker will take care of the rest and have a batch of good quality rice ready in under 25 minutes. However, we are not 100 percent sure if there is a keep warm mode as like the other units reviewed on this page. Also, please note that preparing brown rice along with other varieties does require some trial and error and will be of an average standard at best. It can also be used to make oatmeal and heat up soups! For the price, and for what folks will need it for, this mini rice cooker is a good model to consider. Panasonic SRG06FG From Amazon.com
Black and Decker RC-3303
For a real small travel rice cooker, and quite possibly the smallest, this model from Black and Decker is a fair buy. With an approximate 1 cup bowl size, this very compact and light weight rice cooker is perfect for making that quick batch of rice or small portion of oatmeal and soup when on the go. Like the above Panasonic cooker, the RC-3303 is more of a basic measure, plug, set and forget cooker and will make decent quality rice, not very high quality as like the more expensive Zojirushi cooker mentioned at the start of this page. However, for what it is priced at, folks will be hard pressed to find a rice cooker this small that offers a non-stick bowl, tiny size, and keep warm mode for later servings. For under $20 bucks, it is a bargain as far as travel rice cookers go. Black & Decker RC3303 Available on Amazon.com
