Zojirushi NS-RNC10 5 Cup Rice Cooker

zojirushi ns-rnc10

Price Range: Moderate

Rice Quality: Good

Benefits & Features: Few

Performance: Excellent

Pros vs. Cons: Pros Outweigh Cons

Overall Rating: Good

With the simple press of a lever the Zojirushi NS-RNC10 rice cooker will prepare good quality rice ranging from 1 cup to 5.5 cups all in under half an hour. The cooked results equal anywhere from 3 to 16 cups cooked white rice.

Being a Zojirushi, this model is well-built, durable, and performs well, and currently this 5 cup rice cooker has received 4 1/2 Stars in Amazon's customer reviews section. It is expensive for a basic and medium size rice cooker but is worth the cost for folks who cook white rice daily.

For once and while or occasional use we recommend researching a less expensive unit.

This model has an attractive plain white and floral design that should fit the style of most kitchens and appeal to most folks' taste. The size of this cooker is not too large and therefore will not require a lot of counter space. The unit also sports a retractable power cord allowing it to sit close to the wall without the hassle of cord clutter.

Air Tight Lid Keeps Rice Moist for Hours

The Zojirushi NS-RNC10 has an air tight lid and a generous keep warm feature that will hold the rice at a moist, ready to eat temperature for up to 12 hours.

This type of cooker really benefits folks that have limited time to prepare dinner as they can start the cooker before leaving work, and when arriving home hours later the rice is already cooked and waiting to be served with the rest of the meal.

Also, this pressure locked domed lid along with the condensation collector prevents both boil-over and water dripping on to the finished rice.

These simple benefits are what we liked most about this NS-RNC10 model since most basic one lever cookers either do not offer such a long keep warm mode and sometimes need to be served right away as well as monitored for starchy water spilling over.

A close rival of the Tiger JNP-1000 cooker which shares almost identical benefits!

However, please note that there may be some mild "crusting" on bottom layer of rice with this unit. This will not ruin the entire batch or alter the flavor.

The Zojirushi NS-RNC10 cooker comes with a measuring cup, non-abrasive serving spatula with side holder, and multi-language manual.

Pros

  • easy to use
  • non stick and easy to clean
  • great keep warm mode holds rice moist for hours
  • compact design
  • cooks fast
  • performs well and makes good quality white rice

  • Cons

  • no clock or timer
  • a bit expensive for mid-range sized cooker
  • lacks a steaming feature
  • some report condensation collector is a bit flimsy

When it comes down to it, this is yet another good rice cooker from Zojirushi that gets the job done fast. While it may not have advanced settings for specific rice types, lack a steaming feature, and not produce that superb restaurant quality rice as the more expensive Fuzzy Logic units, it is a good buy for the sake of simplicity.

Another thing to mention is that the Zojirushi NS-RNC10 is more ideal for cooking white rice, but can also handle brown and mixed rice as well. There is more of a water to rice ratio learning curve however, and folks will yield less cooked cups over white rice.

For the near $100 price tag, also be sure you will use it often to get the most bang for your buck!

    Measurements: Approx. 10.3 x 10.5 x 9.8 Inches | 5.5 Cup Capacity (16 Cups Cooked)
