Do you like your brown rice on the moist and fluffy side with great flavor? Do you want a cooker to make it just right every time? If so, consider researching the Zojirushi NS-TGC10.
This Zojirushi stainless steel rice cooker (outer shell) will look great in your kitchen, does not take up much room, and comes equipped with different settings; one for white rice and sushi, one for brown, another for mixed rice and porridge, and even one for sponge cake (although we haven't heard the best about that setting).
All folks need to do is make the correct measurements using the included measuring cup, select their desired rice setting on the onboard digital menu, and press start.
The Zojirushi NS-TGC10 will constantly monitor and adjust temperature and cooking time, which varies depending on the rice type selected, and once finished will switch into a keep warm mode until the user is ready to serve.
It is not complicated to use and has a 5.5 cup size capacity which can prepare around 16 cups of cooked white rice. We just wish it offered a steaming and slow cooking function like some of the top Sanyo models (ECJ-HC55S for example).
However, like other Zojirushi models, this cooker will take the frustration and guess work out of making very good quality rice. Especially when cooking/desiring fluffy & moist brown rice! Just keep in mind that the process and technology this machine uses to make fantastic rice requires extra overall cooking time.
To help counter that, the Zojirushi NS-TGC10 unit also features a programmable timer.
This versatile cooker is part of the Zojirushi Micom rice cooker line, which is good...but has a current price tag that may not fit all budgets. It does however receive a majority of positive customer feedback.
Pros
sports an easy to read digital LCD panel
stylish stainless steel look
makes great tasting sticky rice (not soggy)
convenient timer feature including auto start up
easy to clean non-stick pan
retractable cord storage
keeps rice warm once finished
Cons
not the most budget friendly
cup size not suitable for larger families (see NS-TGC18 model)
takes up to 2 hours for brown rice
despite price, does not offer a steaming feature for vegetables
Going back on cup size, it is always recommended that folks use the cups that are included with the unit for best results.
To conclude, as we briefly mentioned, the Zojirushi NS-TGC10 may not be for everyone. It is currently well over $100 at time of writing this review, and for folks who plan on using it less than once a week, we recommend a less expensive unit. Take a look at some Panasonic rice cookers that cook rice well for less.
Having stated that, this model is perfect for those who enjoy rice on a daily basis and prefer consistency on how it is prepared. Although it doesn't specifically state on Zojirushi's website that this unit uses "Fuzzy Logic" technology, we believe it is equipped with it...and also does do a good job at distributing heat quite evenly when cooking.
Tip: too prolong the internal battery life leave unit plugged in. The cooker will continue to work properly without the battery as it just runs the clock when unplugged. Life of battery is approx. 4 years.
